Penny Mordaunt is a British politician and was a Parliamentarian for 14 years, holding nine ministerial roles, four in Cabinet, including Secretary of State for Defence- the first women to have done that role.

As Paymaster General she was the UK government’s first cross-government defensive cyber lead and led the rebuild of the UK’s civil contingencies and resilience strategy. She has been Secretary of State for International Development, working with UN agencies, international organisations and she was the UK’s representative at the World Bank.

Penny came to the public’s attention in the role of Leader of the Commons and Lord President of the Council, presiding over the Accession Council following the death of Queen Elizabeth II and at the coronation of King Charles III. She was among Gracia and Vogue’s most influential women of the year.

Penny was a Royal Navy Reservist for 10 years and is now an Honorary Captain affiliated to MCM2 Squadron, the UK’s mine hunters and bomb disposal divers.

As Minister for the Armed Forces she established some of the first training teams to Ukraine and has supported the country’s fight for freedom. She has organised military supplies and body armour and helped Ukraine stand up a team for the US Warrior games. She has been caring for the daughter of a Ukrainian MP since May 2022.

As a supporter of DNLA, Penny will continue to amplify the voices of Ukraine through the organisation’s powerful films and media initiatives, helping to engage global audiences with Ukraine’s story of resilience and hope. Her passion for fostering international solidarity makes her a vital partner in DNLA’s mission to sustain and build global support for Ukraine in the UK, USA, and beyond.
